The opening of our Church Buildings - updated 7th January 2021

Dear Friends,

Minehead Church Council has, with a majority of Members in favour, voted for immediate suspension of live worship; 18 people where in favour of the suspension of live worship with 3 against.
All members of Watchet Church Council were unanimously in favour of immediate suspension of live worship.
Therefore, the live worship at both Minehead and Watchet will be temporarily suspended with immediate effect.  These decisions were taken with heavy hearts and with a very serious concern for the well-being of everyone concerned. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of these difficult decisions. We will reinstate live worship at both Minehead and Watchet as soon as we are able once the current situation improves.

For now, our weekly Sunday zoom worship will continue. For as long as our live worship is suspended, our Sunday zoom worship will move to 10.30 am. As soon as our live worship is reinstated, we will move our circuit Sunday zoom service back to 4.30 pm.

Please share this information with others, especially those who are not on email. It would be helpful if pastoral group leaders and church stewards would ensure everyone knows about these changes. Thank you.

So to confirm, as from Sunday 10 January there will be no live worship at either Minehead or Watchet and our zoom worship will be held at 10.30 am.

#########################################################################

When live services resume the following will apply:

The change to Tier 4 for the whole of Somerset means that we will no longer be able to engage in social conversation outside our buildings. The previously established regulations continue to be applicable inside our buildings, but everyone will be encourage to go straight home after the service.
As you will be aware, the government instruction for Tier 4 is to 'Stay at home', especially if you fall into the clinically vulnerable group, which includes everyone over 70, whatever their state of health. Please consider carefully if you feel it is right for you to come along to our live worship services. The most important thing for us all is to stay healthy and well, as far as we are able to. Whatever decision you make will be respected.

Here are some important reminders about practical arrangements:

  • Anyone wishing to attend one of the services on Sunday is requested to make a prior reservation by contacting the appropriate person beforehand, details below.  Each church has already decided on the maximum number of people that can be accommodated in order to maintain social distancing. These number is 54 for Minehead and 30 for Watchet. These numbers are absolute and we are not permitted to allow more than this number into either building for a worship service. If you wish to attend one of these live services, please ring the person below to book your place. Once the maximum number is reached, no one else will be permitted to join the service.
  • Further requirements for Tier 4 worship services include the following: please wear a face-covering at all times within the building you attend (unless you have an official medical exemption); no conversation is permitted inside the building, but feel free to wave to other people; no singing is permitted during the service; windows and doors must remain open throughout the service to allow for ventilation, so please wear warm clothes; please adhere to social distancing at all times within and outside the building; please do not arrive more than 15 minutes before the start time of the service, as no one will be permitted to enter either building before 10.15 am; the services will be shorter than usual, between 30 and 40 minutes long; please exit the building as soon as the service has finished following the stewards guidance, this will help to maintain social distancing as you leave.  These things are in place to ensure that everyone is kept safe, including those stewards who are opening our churches and those who are leading the services.
  • When booking for a service, you will be asked details about your existing social bubble and how many seats you will require.  This information is required so that we can safely manage seating arrangements and retain contact information for track and trace requirements.
  • Although we very much look forward to being able to resume live services, we will be continuing with our regular zoom worship but at the later time of 4.30 pm.  You will be very welcome at both our live and zoom services, as you are able to attend. The content of the zoom services will be different from the content of the live services, and it is hoped that many of you will choose to come along to both our live services and our zoom worship.

It is important that everyone around the Circuit knows about the requirement for advance reservations for our live worship services. We would like to avoid the situation of someone coming along to a live service and not being allowed into the service because our maximum number has been reached.  Would all pastoral group leaders please ensure that everyone in your pastoral group is aware of these requirements to save disappointment, wasted journeys and so that we are able to keep everyone safe. Thank you.

For Minehead Methodist Church, please make your prior reservation by contacting Jean Armin on 01643 703597

For Watchet Methodist Church, please make your prior reservation by contacting Joy Rownes on 01984 639942

These are very strange and difficult days. We are doing our best to keep everyone safe. Your cooperation in following these guidelines is much appreciated. Thank you.

Every blessing,

Nick
